McHenry and Kane County Salvation Army emergency assistance programs.

Salvation Army Corps Community Centers and Service Extension Units provide assistance to qualified McHenry and Kane County families. Emergency assistance for rent, heating bills and free stuff such as school supplies, shelter, blankets for the homeless, or Christmas toys may be offered. In addition, other other aid can be distributed from these Salvation Army locations.

Centers and Service Units have limited resources, and rely heavily on volunteers and donations as well. They may be able to provide many forms of assistance to persons in need, including vital emergency assistance programs and services. Across Kane and McHenry County there are several units which are overseen by Salvation Army personnel from various offices, including Crystal Lake.

The Salvation Army center that is located in Carpentersville Illinois also provides financial assistance to help people pay rent and utility bills when cash and funding is available. These housing programs will make partial rental payments for families and individuals who are at risk of eviction from their home or apartment if they do not receive assistance. There are age, income, disability, need and other eligibility requirements.

Services include: C.A.R.S. Ministry, a clothing store, a dental and vision clinic, employment services, a food store with full-choice, legal aid, and a kids' zone.

We provide free, one-to-one literacy tutoring to adults in St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, Campton Hills, LaFox, Lily Lake, Wasco and Wayne, Illinois. Click here to learn English.

 

YWCA Elgin Clothing Center

Until Further Notice:

  • All Referral Clients will be required to make an appointment (1/2 hour time slots) to shop. 
  • NO Walk Ins without an appointment. 
  • Contact Sherry via email at kinserton@yahoo.com, or via phone at 847-815-0502 to schedule an appt.
  • FACE MASKS are no longer required.
  • The Clothing Center will provide underprivileged families in need, the opportunity to shop for gently used clothing, shoes and apparel accessories (quantity limits apply) once a month (2nd or 4th Wednesday) from September, 2023 thru May, 2024 (See Clothing Center Calendar). Please use discretion when offering the Referral Form (attached). Only families in need should shop at no cost.  One completed current year Referral Form per family is required each year (Sept – May).
