Social Sciences

U‑46’s high school Social Sciences curriculum empowers students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and engaged citizens. Through core courses such as U.S. History, Civics, and Economics, along with a wide range of electives and Advanced Placement offerings, students engage in inquiry-driven learning that connects past and present while preparing them for their futures. Our curriculum is grounded in the Illinois Social Science Standards and supports students in developing historical thinking, analyzing diverse perspectives, and understanding their role in a democratic society.

Aligned with U‑46’s mission and core values—Equity, High Expectations, Innovation, Leadership & Accountability—our instructional approach emphasizes culturally responsive teaching and inclusive learning environments. The Social Sciences team is committed to creating rigorous, relevant, and supportive experiences that reflect the diversity of our students and prepare them to lead with curiosity, empathy, and purpose.
